They really made a more interactive tower defense game. You need equal parts smart tower defense and skill with a variety of weapons to get through most waves. There is a really great variety of creatures, weapons, and towers. The entire level takes a while (60-90 min), but no wave feels too long to get boring. It's a little frustrating that you have to pick and choose a subset of the possible various towers and weapons you take into a level, but I understand it's part of the strategy. They don't want to give you every possible variety, even though a lot of times you so wish you could build just one of that tower that would be perfect in this level, but you know you need to build a lot more of another type.. Sanctum is a fun and challenging game. It requires you to balance resources and defense structures. The goal of each map is to defend a core from incoming waves of monsters. Simple right? It's not. Each wave is unique in that the content varies. Some waves may only contain one monster, while another wave can contain many types. Each monster has a specific weak spot that you target to kill them more effectively. You have to destoy these waves by constructing an efficient maze of towers and guns. But you don't have unlimited resources; only what is given to you after each wave. That's when creativity and balancing come into play. The game is even more fun under mulitplayer mode. With more people, you have more resources to spend to defend your core. However, the monster waves are random and stronger than the single player version. Communication is key to having a sucessful game. A method that can be used have each person focus on a type of tower (one person can focus on anti-air and floors, while another one could focus on ground and laser towers)This game was worth the purchase. It provides you with a great challenge. Be warned though because each round can take up to an hour or more. If you have plenty of time to kill and want a challenge, then this game is for you. But if you don't have the time or patience to play, skip this game. There will be times where after playing for 45 minutest to an hour, you find out that your core has been attacked and you no longer have that 100%. You quit and then you resume from last save. So have paitence when playing this game. One last note: Play around with the multiplayer chat. You'll be laughing a lot.. One of the best tower defense games ever created. Though the sequel has more towers, more interesting towers, more characters to play, a lot of replayability (due to challenge modes), I still prefer this one because it is more fluid and feels easier to target things.. A nice combination of tower defence and fps. Many options when preparing strategy for each level makes it replayable and challenging. Would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys having to plan ahead, wrong strategy and the level will be over sooner than you'd like. I speak from experience.. Are you into Tower Defense games? What about First Person Shooters? Sanctum takes a unique twist on TD games by combining both. The game includes funny commentary as well. A must for your TD collections!. I can recommend this game, but just barely. If you have time to play either Sanctum or Sanctum 2, please opt for the second in the series. The real issue with the original Sanctum, in my view, is just that there are just too many variables. Sanctum is the free jazz of FPS tower defense, for my music fans out there. In the second game, your weapon stays the same, you can drop around 15 towers per map, and each tower can be upgraded 3 times. In Sanctum, you can upgrade your weapon up to 5 times, you can upgrade towers up to 5 times, and you can drop as many towers as you can afford. Secondly, the waves you fight each time you play a map are random. This led both me and my partner to fail maps repeatedly without really getting a feel for what our issues were. We completed all main game and DLC maps on normal, but had an extremely difficult time with a few on hard. An important aspect of any game is the sense of feedback the player is given. I feel that almost all of the changes made in the second game were positive. However, FPS tower defense is a unique and awesome genre, and the importance placed both on towers and the player's ability to place shots makes this series more engaging than typical tower defense.. An alarmingly good and varied game that really does excel in the way the game marries the genre of FPS and tower defense. If you like those two genres, this is an essential buy.
